Spirit of Dagon / War against God's People

1. Introduction
DAGON SPIRIT
Dagon was the chief god of the Philistines and he was worshipped in the
physical form of half-man and half-fish. He was known as the god of the grain and the harvest. Many temples were built where Dagon was worshipped. It was in such a temple where the Philistines placed the Ark of the Lord when they captured it in war. The details of this occurrence are described in 1 Samuel 4, 5. Sampson‟s final battle also took place in a temple of Dagon and is described in Judges 16:23-31.
A Biblical example of the Dagon spirit in operation can be seen in Eli‟s sons. Eli‟s sons sinned by claiming the best of the tithes offered to God as well as committing sexual immorality at the temple. These are two of the main fruits evident in those who have a Dagon spirit. The sin of Eli‟s two sons resulted in the capture of the Ark of the Covenant by the Philistines. However, God shortly afterwards confirms His triumph over the Dagon spirit in the enemy‟s camp. Gods Ark was set up in the temple of Dagon and the statue of Dagon fell down twice in the presence of God‟s Ark. The Philistines were quick to acknowledge their sin and sent a trespass offering with the Ark back to Israel. (1 Samuel 6:2-13)
Dagon was worshipped in the following ways:
  •   Child sacrifice
  •   Required statues to be made and worshipped, in this case in the likeness of a
    half-man half-fish
  •   They avoided eating fish, in reverence to their god Names Dagon is worshipped under today
  •   Rejoiced over the capture of their enemies such as Samson (Judges 16:23)
  •   They brought the trophies of their victories such as the Ark of the Covenant and

the head of Saul into the temple of Dagon (1 Samuel 31:9-10; 1 Chronicles 10:10)

Activities that pay homage to Dagon:
  •   Leaping over the threshold (Zephaniah 1:9, 1 Samuel 5:5)
  •   Actively acting on false beliefs such as not stepping on the threshold and
carrying the bride over the threshold (1 Samuel 5:5)
  •   Wearing a miter or hat that looks like an open fish mouth on your head, or paying
homage to someone who wears such a hat, such as a catholic pope or cardinal
  •   Abstaining from eating fish, or only eating fish on certain days as seen in the
    Roman Catholic religion
  •   Using the fish symbol, as many Christians does
  •   Filling the house of God with violence and deceit (Zephaniah 1:9)
2. Scripture References
  •   Judges 16:23 Now the lords of the Philistines gathered together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice. And they said: "Our god has delivered into our hands Samson our enemy!"
  •   1 Samuel 5:2 When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon.
  •   1 Samuel 5:3 And when the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. So they took Dagon and set it in its place again.
  •   1 Samuel 5:4 And when they arose early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the ground before the ark of the LORD. The head of Dagon and both the palms of its hands were broken off on the threshold; only Dagon's torso was left of it.
  •   1 Samuel 5:5 Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any who come into Dagon's house tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.
  •   1 Samuel 5:7 And when the men of Ashdod saw how it was, they said, "The ark of the God of Israel must not remain with us, for His hand is harsh toward us and Dagon our god."
  •   Zephaniah 1:9-17 “In the same day I will punish All those who leap over the threshold, Who fill their masters' houses with violence and deceit. "And there shall be on that day," says the LORD, "The sound of a mournful cry from the Fish Gate, A wailing from the Second Quarter, And a loud crashing from the hills. Wail, you inhabitants of Maktesh! For all the merchant people are cut down; All those who handle money are cut off. And it shall come to pass at that time That I will search Jerusalem with lamps, And punish the men Who are settled in complacency, Who say in their heart, 'The LORD will not do good, Nor will He do evil.' Therefore their goods shall become booty, And their houses a desolation; They shall build houses, but not inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards, but not drink their wine." The great day of the LORD is near; It is near and hastens quickly. The noise of the day of the LORD is bitter; There the mighty men shall cry out. That day is a day of wrath, A day of trouble and distress, A day of
devastation and desolation, A day of darkness and gloominess, A day of clouds and thick darkness, A day of trumpet and alarm Against the fortified cities And against the high towers. I will bring distress upon men, And they shall walk like blind men, Because they have sinned against the LORD; Their blood shall be poured out like dust, And their flesh like refuse."
1 Chronicles 10:10 “Then they put his armor in the temple of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.” (King Saul‟s head)

Also to bring man to a place of disobedience to God‟s commandments in order for God‟s curses to come upon man so that he will suffer famine, infirmities or premature death.

    Identification of the spirit
Identify the work of this spirit in your life by completing the Identifying Questionnaire.
Forgiveness
Make a list of the names of those people you need to forgive, including yourself, your parents and ancestors. Forgive those who have sinned against you and release them. Ask God to forgive you, as you forgave those who sinned against you.
Repentance for sins
  •   Repent for harboring this spirit and for allowing it to operate in your area of authority and responsibility. Example of a prayer of repentance is: “Lord please forgive my ancestors and I, in the Name of Jesus Christ, for allowing this spirit to operate through us.”
  •   Repent for your sins. Here is an example of a prayer of repentance: “I ask forgiveness for committing the following sins and commit myself to turn away from it in future:
    • Sinning against God, through failure to tithe or corrupt handling of tithe money by church leadership
    • Filling God‟s house with violence and deceit
    • Idolatry
    • Immorality
    • Disobedience
    • Rebellion
    • Pride
    • Power-hungry
    • Oppression and torture of God's children
    • Child sacrifice
    • First fruit offerings of grain to idols
    • Greed / Lust
    • False Teachings
    • Deception
    • Perverting God's Word
Sever ungodly soul-ties and ungodly spiritual contracts
  •   Identify all soul-ties that have occurred due to ungodly sexual relationships. Cut each of these soul-ties individually and declare them null and void. Declare that the demons that used these soul-ties to transfer from person to person will have no more rights to do this. Seal these soul-ties with the anointing of the Holy Spirit and / or the blood of Jesus
  •   Make the following declaration:
    • In the Name of Jesus Christ, I declare a divorce with this spirit
    • I tear up any contracts and revoke any rights my ancestors or I gave this
spirit in our lives and declare them nullified
    • I declare that I take all rights back in the name of Jesus Christ who came
      in the flesh
Deal with curses, rituals and altars
  •   Ask the Lord to lift any curses that He has allowed to come upon you because of your involvement in these sins. For example: Father, in Jesus Name I ask You to remove the following curses and fruits in my life which were a result of my ancestors' and my own involvement with this spirit:
    • You will see an enemy in God‟s dwelling place
    • Your spiritual leaders will bring spiritual blindness on you

  •   Pronounce destruction over the altars of this spirit in your life, and declare that you are a temple of the living God and that He alone reigns as King in your life
  •   Ask the Lord to remove all leaven that caused you to walk under the control of
this spirit, from your habits of thinking, your will, emotions and your body
Bind and cast the demons out
Bind the principality. Then bind the power. Suggested wording: “I bind you (name of power) ______________ in the name of Jesus Christ who came in the flesh.” If you have identified these sins as bloodline sins, address it as follows: “I bind you (name of power) ______________ in the name of Jesus Christ who came in the flesh in the fourth, third, second and in this generation. I speak death over your roots, branches and fruits in the life of ________ (name of the person being delivered)”.
Command the demon to leave and continue to do so until it leaves. This is where you have to operate in Godly discernment. Ask the Lord to help you discern when the demon has left. From experience, we have learned that the following will help you in your warfare:
  •   Remind the demon that you are standing in the authority of Jesus Christ and that the demon is actually facing Christ and not you
  •   Remind the demon of the victory that we have through the blood of Christ that flowed on the cross
  •   Remind the demon that all his rights have been taken away
  •   Remind the demon that the person being delivered does not want it to reside in
them anymore. You may even request the person going through deliverance to say the words out loud: (Name of power) ___________, I don‟t want you inside of me. Leave me in the name of Jesus Christ who came in the flesh
  •   Quote scripture, as the Spirit of the Lord leads you. Examples of scriptures to quote:
    • Deuteronomy 32:30 “one chases a thousand, And two put ten thousand to flight”
    • Matthew 16:19 “And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
    • Revelation 12:11 “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.”
    • Matthew 28:18 "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”
    • Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
  •   Sing worship songs or praise the Lord
  •   Pray with understanding and pray in tongues
  •   Perform any prophetic actions that God gives you, for example:
    • Thrusting with the Sword of the Spirit
    • Walking around the person
    • Placing your hand on the person, as the Lord leads you. Always keeping
in mind the dignity of the person and what is proper and acceptable
    • Removing yokes and false mantles or bondages, as the Lord leads you
  •   When the demon has left the person‟s body, thank the Lord and ask Him to command His angels to take it to where the Lord requires it next
  •   Bind and cast out only those demons in the following list that you identify as having assisted this demonic power in its work within the person being ministered to. (Following the same steps as used to cast out the power) Spirit of idolatry, spirit of pride, spirit of rebellion, spirit of immorality, spirit of blasphemy, spirit of mental illness, spirit of hatred, spirit of lies, spirit of deception, spirit of lust, spirit of greed, spirit of fear, spirit of anxiety, spirit of stress, spirit of rejection, spirit of self-rejection, spirit of fear of rejection
  •   Bind and cast out each individual spirit in the name of Jesus Christ who came in the flesh. In addition, bind and cast out all the demons listed as Common Accomplices
  •   Lastly, bind and cast the following principalities out: Apollyon, Belial
Restoration and healing
  •   Invite the Lord Jesus Christ to take His rightful place on the throne of your heart
  •   This is a good time to pray for infilling of the Holy Spirit. Ask the Lord to fill you
with the Spirit of adoption into the Body of Christ
  •   This is also the right time to pray for any physical and emotional healing that is
required. We use olive oil as a symbol of the Holy Spirit and we lay our hands on
the sick and pray for healing in the name of Jesus Christ, who came in the flesh
  •   Identify the fruits of the Spirit that counteract the sins you were involved in and
set your mind on growing in these areas
  •   Ask the Lord to help you to renew your mind and to bring you to a place of
obedience where you will find scriptures and apply it when you find yourself under spiritual attack Renew your mind by consciously deciding against sinning. Gather scriptures that counteract the particular sins that plagued you and quote them in times of temptation until the urge to fall into sin flees from you
  •   Revoke and take back all rights Satan has to control your life, will, mind, emotions and body and submit them to the Lord
  •   Counteract the fruits of the spirit of lust by praying and spending time in God‟s presence, and by exercising self-control
  •   Find out who you are in Christ by identifying verses in the Bible. Memorize some of these verses and quote them when you find yourself under spiritual attack
  •   Quit looking at your own inabilities and failures and walk in God‟s abilities and righteousness
  •   Expect spiritual opposition and that the spirits that have left will try to return -- be alert and aware. Satan will try and attack you with self-centeredness and compromise. Counteract these attacks by consciously dying to your own will and submitting to what God wants in every area of your life
  •   Do not waste time under condemnation
  •   Pick up the sword of the Spirit and war against the powers, principalities and their
    fruits in your life!
    Equipping and Aftercare
  •   Share with the person the keys to retain their deliverance, as shared in this book. In fact, it would be excellent for this person to have a copy of this book and to read it cover to cover. This will ensure that they obtain much needed knowledge and will not perish for a lack thereof (Hosea 4:6)
  •   Please keep in mind, and share with the person, that they will be tired after deliverance. They might also continue experiencing minor manifestations for the next couple of days. This is normal and they need to press into the presence of the Lord and rest in Him during this time. This is why it is called warfare -- a spiritual battle has taken place and all those involved will feel the effects on their physical bodies

Scriptures to use against this spirit:
  •   Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
  •   Malachi 3:10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this," Says the LORD of hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not
be room enough to receive it.
  •   Malachi 3:11 "And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not
destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the
    field," Says the LORD of hosts;
  •   Malachi 3:12 And all nations will call you blessed, For you will be a delightful
land," Says the LORD of hosts.”

  1. I find it interesting that you say dagon worship included child sacrifice... I find no sources for that. There is NOTHING directly saying that child sacrifices were given to dagon anywhere is scripture... Marduk yes Dagon no. A matter of fact... there is nothing available describing there religious practice what so ever. We have remnants that linger but no proof.
    no proof.
I am always offended by the assertion that the Christian fish is connected to dagon, also no proof only extrapolation.
Fact in the pagan world when Christians were underground Christians would use the fish to disclose there identity. They would make an arc. if the person they met created a fsh drawing a second arc the person was saying that they were also a believer. if a person was clueless they wouldn't know what to do. People want to believe the cross was always the symbol of a believer but in fact the first symbol was a menorah that joined a star of David, that linked to a fish (for me symbolizing The Light has come to the nations, the son of David a Fisher of men). Why a fish you say? well when Jesus called his disciples he asked them to be fishers of men. Peter, Andrew, James, and John we all fishermen that became fishers of men. So if the fish were a symbol of dagon why would Jesus say that. Well, let me tell you... read Jonah and Read Nahum... the primary god of Nineveh and the people of Assyria was dagon. and GOD literally whipped the out. An underlying message in Jonah... is who is more powerful the Fish, not a whale, (dagon) or me... go tell those people to repent... they were given a stay of the execution of God's judgement for around a 120 years. when God destroyed Nineveh it was utterly destroyed as were all its gods including dagon.... leaving no evidence of how they worshiped dagon at all. There is no evidence of exactly how the Philistines worshiped dagon. What is a viable extrapolation may be they sacrifices there captives to this god of fertility and war... (life and death?)... "In a detail, we see an Assyrian soldier grasping the hand and arm of a captured enemy whose other hand and both feet have already been cut off. ... Severed enemy heads hang from the conquered city's walls. Another captive is impaled on a stake, his hands and feet already having been cut off.: from http://faculty.uml.edu/ethan_spanier/teaching/documents/cp6.0assyriantorture.pdf For the occult the spilling of blood, is the best way to take the life force. With that and the look at more evidence, according to wikipedia and other sources "The display of the flayed skin of defeated enemies has a long history. In ancient Assyria, the flaying of defeated enemies and dissidents was common practice. The Assyrians would leave the skin to tan on their city walls." I cannot find any sources that the "innocent" was anything more then civilian rather then army. I also know that the Ninevites truly believed if they conquered a people they conquered their god. Adonai... has never been conquered, He is the MOST high GOD! Some of your post was covered in blocks with image references but no image. sad.I am sure you had something important to say that could not be read. When Able was murdered in Genesis, The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground." I also find it interesting that all of the nations that become this kind of oppressor and bent on utter slaughter of innocent blood throughout history. now think about the beatitudes... blessed are the peace makers... in Nahum 1 just before Nineveh's destruction, Look, there on the mountains, the feet of one who brings good news, who proclaims peace! Is this our Prince of Peace, King of Kings and Lord of Lords (which means ABOVE all gods or lords in Hebrew... the ba'al is lord.) (Yes, dagon is lowercase... on purpose for there is but ONE GOD)
